Why Tropical Water Lilies?
Hardy (perennial) water lilies are the backbone of a water garden, and have beautiful blooms. But tropical (annual) water lilies, with their flashy colors and prolific blooms capture the most attention.
Tropicals are more likely to produce multiple flowers, stay open longer, and tend to bloom for a month or two longer in the fall. When hardy lilies are ceasing production and storing up energy for the upcoming year, the tropicals just keep going.
Both day and night blooming tropical lilies open and close for periods of three to four days, holding their flowers above the water on strong, stiff stems. They bloom in colors not available in the world of hardy lilies.
Tropical lilies should be placed in the pond once we have consistent water temperature in the high sixties, and fertilized twice a month for the showiest blooms.
Give one a try... they won’t disappoint.
